| Fundraising |
|
Firstly, I would like to thank
Leanne Amarant and the Student Representative Council of the Stawell
Secondary College for their fundraising efforts. A 'casual clothes day'
held on Friday, June 3 raised a over $200 for Hearts of Hope Australia.
At this stage, we can only hold
fundraising events in Tasmania, Victoria and NT. We are working towards
meeting the legal requirements of all States and Territories but this
will take some time as each state has different laws for charitable
collections.
If you reside in one of
the 'approved' states and would like to organise a fundraiser, please
contact me as all activities to collect funds from the public must be approved by the Directors
of HoH Australia before the event is arranged. |
| Hearts
of Hope Newsletter |
|
Planning of our first print
newsletter is well underway. Without giving too much away the first
issue will include: |
- A brief history of HoH including
Directors' biographies
- Personal stories written by a
number of members of the group
- Book and Internet Resources
- An 'interview' with Dr Brizard
- Birthday List and more!
I would really appreciate everybody's
input into this project. Publication is planned for mid to late July so
there is still plenty of time to send me your suggestions. Please use
the following links to email your ideas and contributions: |

Family Photos
There is plenty of space available for
photos. Part of the purpose of the newsletter is to give hope to
families that have had a child diagnosed with a heart condition. Photos
of families and children are a great way to do this. I would like to
encourage everyone to submit a recent photo for inclusion in the
newsletter. Please send me your favourite picture (with caption) either
by email or post. Any original photos will be returned to you after I
have scanned them. |

Membership Fees |
|
The issue of membership fees was
discussed at the 1st meeting of the Executive Committee which resolved "that a $20 annual membership
fee be introduced". Now that Hearts of Hope Australia has
started to implement its programmes, it is appropriate that we introduce
an annual subscription fee to help defray the running costs of the
organisation. The Committee agreed that membership would "be free for parents of
children with complex heart conditions until the child is 6 months of
age."
As the funds we receive can
generally only be used for the benefit
of Australian sufferers of complex congenital heart conditions,
subscription fees are optional for families whose child has passed away
and for those members who reside outside of Australia. We value the
contribution of all our members and will always provide what ever
assistance we can to families that wish to be a part of our support group. However, we feel it would be unfair to compel those who cannot
directly benefit from our funded programmes to subscribe to our
services.
Subscriptions will
be offered from July 1 2005. In addition, to having full access to
HoH services, subscribing
members also have a say in how the organisation is run. The Executive
Committee is bound by the Hearts of Hope Australia constitution to "be
responsive to the views of Members" and does this by discussing all
issues and suggestions raised by our 'financial members'.
Current members can subscribe
by making a payment of $20 by direct deposit* to our ANZ bank account (BSB
Number: 016 745, Account Number: 4984 29962) or by forwarding a cheque
or money order, payable to Hearts of Hope Australia

Some members have also asked if
their extended family and friends can join HoH. The short answer is yes;
we are more than happy to offer membership to anyone who supports our
aims. I have included a sample invitation below. Please edit this to suit (leaving the link
information intact) and forward it to anyone you personally know that may be
interested in supporting HoH through a subscription.

Dear ,
I am a member of a support group
for children born with complex heart conditions. Hearts of Hope
Australia is a non-profit organisation that was setup to help relieve
the suffering and distress of these children by providing non-medical
support, information and other assistance directly to their families.
The reason I am writing is to ask if you
would be interested in supporting us by subscribing to the HoH
Newsletter which is published quarterly. Subscription costs $20 per annum
and also includes access to various services offered via the
HoH Website. More details about
Hearts of Hope Australia's mission, programmes and services are
available by visiting the website or by requesting an information pack
