CHD Information and StatisticsOne in every hundred babies are born with a heart condition. This makes Congenital Heart Defects the most common birth defect in Australia. There are approximately 40 identifiable birth anomalies and syndromes that are classified as CHDs. The table below lists Congenital Heart Defects as described in the International Classification of Diseases code. The list is sorted from most common (VSD) to the rarest conditions.
