Getting Around Melbourne

Transport to and from the Airport
The easiest way to get directly to the RCH from the Airport is by Taxi. However this is fairly expensive at $50-60 per trip. Also if you are traveling with a baby you would need to book with one of the companies that have child restraints.

You can also rent cars at the airport. We found AVIS to be the cheapest (and they included a baby seat at no additional cost) but check prices and don’t forget about extras such as tolls, insurance, GST and charges for extra kms traveled.

SkyBus also a provide City/Airport service. Fares start at $19 for adukts each way and a little cheaper if you buy a return ticket. There are concessions for families. The bus only stops in at the terminal near the Spencer Street Railway Station. To get to the hospital, you need to catch one of the trams that go from there to Elizabeth Street in the City and then another to the hospital. Not the most convenient but OK if you have ‘stuff’ to do in the city and you don’t have much luggage!

Tolls
If you have your own vehicle and plan to use CityLink, you can purchase a pass online or by phone on 13 26 29. Passes may also be bought at 7-11 stores and other retail outlets.

Trams
Trams are a good way to get to the city and nearby shopping centres (Brunswick, Carlton etc). You will need a myki pass to pay for travel on Melbourne trams.
